Canada will get new Mercedes C-Class wagon

The traditional wagon, once a mainstay of US sales for Mercedes-Benz, has been all but replaced by crossovers of all shapes and sizes – although the current E350 wagon and its sinister Mercedes-AMG E63 variant are superb and still available stateside. You might assume that Canada, which historically has received some Mercedes vehicles not available in America, has been enjoying all the wagons we don't get all along. That's not actually the case; the previous C-Class wagon wasn't sold to our northern neighbors. That said, this slick new C300d 4Matic wagon will be, but choices will be limited.

That doesn't do much to dull the envy, we understand. Let's take a quick look at the specs involved. All C-Class wagons in Canada will be of the C300d 4Matic flavor, and that means a turbodiesel four-cylinder good for 200 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. All that twist paired with 4Matic all-wheel drive and Mercedes' excellent seven-speed automatic, shared with the other C-Class variants, should make it an entertaining drive in all weather conditions. Optional Airmatic suspension will bring its trademark balance of handing and comfort to the wagon as well.

Mercedes-Benz Canada hasn't revealed curb weight yet, and while the company does boast of increased aluminum usage to lightweight the wagon as much as possible, it will obviously be a bit heavier than the sedan. How much is an interesting question that we'll work on answering. A maximum load capacity of 53 cubic feet isn't far off the GLC's 56.5 cubic feet or the E-Class wagon's 57.4 cubic feet of cargo volume.

We reached out to Mercedes-Benz USA about sales in this country, and a company spokesperson told us the following: "There are no plans to bring the C-Class Wagon to the US market based on unique market conditions. We are proud to have 100 percent market share with the E350 4Matic wagon and Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon in the US market." That settles that.

No word yet on when the C-Class wagon goes on sale in Canada, or how much it'll cost.
