Lewis Hamilton signs a third victory at the Grand Prix of Canada

The most important event of the year in Canada, in terms of international mediatic impact and economic fallout, took place last weekend at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Ran into a particular context a bit this year, the Canadian Grand Prix was a huge success once again, the stands being busy although a 10% drop in ticket sales has been noted. Should we infer that the manifestations of students (and extremist splinter groups are being alas sometimes grafts) had deterred potential visitors? Or is it rather that the economy in other countries being lackluster, less European and American tourists had made the displacement this year? 're Looking for the second hypothesis.

This event always very awaited by passionate, has therefore proceeded without serious incident on the site of the Ile Notre-Dame. In fact, the only activity was CANCELLED the day open house on Thursday morning, for fear of spoilers. This day was also the only free activity, or that the less fortunate could go, or that dads take their children to see the cars of Formula 1 pres. So we can say that again, this is not the objective is that was reached.

On the track, Lewis Hamilton has lived a weekend as radiant as the sun which floods the site Saturday for qualifying and Sunday's race. Fastest time in free practice on Friday, McLaren-Mercedes driver admitted failing to give the maximum, concentrating to work the settings of his car. During the qualifying session, he saw the double world champion title Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull-Renault) to steal first place by three tenths of a second. A chasm has this level of competition!

The race was very strategic, although a significant number of overruns have come to make it also very spectacular. In mind, Vettel led to the first tire change, but Hamilton who was arrested two laps later, went well under the nose of his opponent. Before them, Fernando Alonso had managed to slide his Ferrari but the Spaniard would have to lower the rate at the end of the race, the tires do not offer enough of adhesion.

Hamilton has very convincingly clinched his third career win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which made him the equal of the Brazilian Nelson Piquet. Both are still far seven victories of Michael Schumacher. Speaking of "Schumi", his race ended in incredible manner, so that the slats closing its rear wing remained open, not giving any support to his car. When we know that Formula 1 exceeds the 300 km / h down the straight line casino, the situation was quite dangerous for the stable Mercedes recalls its pilot garage.

The podium was completed by the Franco-Swiss Romain Grosjean, Lotus-Renault, and the Mexican Sergio Perez Sauber-Ferrari on. They both took the ascendancy over Alonso in the last ten laps, as Vettel. The "Top 10" is completed by Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), Mark Webber (Red Bull-Renault), Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus-Renault), Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber-Ferrari) and Felipe Massa (Ferrari). Made a note, Hamilton is the seventh winner in as many tests this season and no accident came forcing the deployment of the safety car. On the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, we had lost the habit!

Several tests also competed last weekend in the world of international motorsport, including IndyCar or Quebecois Alex Tagliani realized the feat of carrying his car Dallara-Honda of Bryan Herta Autosport small team in pole position Super Oval Texas Motor Speedway. In race two pilots Ganassi Racing quickly took the lead, Scott Dixon first, Graham Rahal then, but both hit the wall, giving the victory to the British Justin Wilson (Dallara-Honda). Tagliani finished ninth, handicapped by problems of handling.

NASCAR Joey Logano (Toyota) has harvest pole and victory in the Sprint Cup, the oval Pocono (Pennsylvania). In Camping World Series trucks is in support of the Texas IndyCar race that was presented. It was won by Johnny Sauter (Toyota). Finally, in Europe, the World Championship of GT cars presented for the first time in its history a race in Slovakia, the Slovakia Ring. This is the crew Michael Bartels / Yelmer Buurman (BMW Z4), which is required.

The next weekend, the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans will be the featured event par excellence.
