The second generation engine HR16DE 4-cylinder 1.6-liter uses a range of technologies, making it one of the most advanced in its class powertrains. For example, while traditional engines use only one injector per cylinder for supplying fuel, the new Versa Sedan engine is equipped with two integrated injectors mounted near the inlet valve for each cylinder. This dual injector system provides greater fuel injection nozzles projecting a small fuel spray thinner in order to ensure stable combustion.
This new compact lightweight engine also equips the control system of continuously variable distribution (CVTC) on the intake valves and exhaust, which is similar to that of the Maxima, Nissan's flagship model. Employing a system CVTC on the exhaust valves allows to increase the thermal efficiency, reduce the resistance to the intake and improve approximately 4% to Energy Efficiency.
