Chrysler folds and recalls 1.5 million Jeep in North America

Of these, 442,000 vehicles were sold in the United States, nearly 75,000 in Canada, about 10,000 in Mexico, while others were sold everywhere around the world.

Here are the headrests and airbags that are at fault.

According to Transport Canada

On some vehicles, the airbag warning light may illuminate due to an electrical failure in the control module of the occupant restraint system (ORC). Consequently, the active head restraints (AHR) may not deploy during a rear collision (or their deployment is justified), which could increase the risk of injury to front seat passengers.

Correction: Dealers will reprogram the totally integrated power module (TIPM) or replace the ORC module, as required. In Canada, 25,546 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The vehicles concerned are:

Chrysler 200, Sebring and Dodge Avenger for years 2011, 2013.

Dodge Nitro 2011 and 2012.

Jeep Liberty 2011 2013.

The American manufacturer also recalls 282,000 minivans Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan and the RAM Cargo, all the model-year 2013 for a defect in the system of lateral airbag. Dealers will reprogram the control module of the occupant restraint system (ORC). For Canada, it is 49 282 vehicles that are recalled for manufacturing defect.

Finally, 40 minivans Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan 2013 sold in Canada are recalled: the occupant restraint system (ORC) has been configured with an incorrect software. Therefore, the airbag may not deploy when needed. Dealers will replace the software.
