Nissan expands fuel line recall for Altima, Maxima

In the middle of the summer, Nissan carried out a recall of about 5,500 2016-model-year Maxima sedans to repair an o-ring in the fuel line that could come loose and allow fuel to leak after a crash. The recall has been expanded to include a total 46,846 Altima models from the 2013 to 2016 model years, and the 2016-model-year Maxima, all with the 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The problem is a seal between the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says "might not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly." There are 28,198 Altimas and 18,648 Maximas potentially affected. Owners can take the cars to dealers to have a retainer ring installed at the fuel-line connection, that repair being done free of charge. The NHTSA recall bulletin below has more.
