Ford presents its robots with laser eyes and suction arm
Dashboard, windshield, roof and wings are among the components of the new Ford Escape, which are mounted on measurement dowries robots cameras and laser eyes, thus improving the quality of production and reduce fatigue employees, while saving energy.
Lasers and cameras allow machines to adjust a gap while positioning has as the Escape models follow one another on the assembly line to be equipped with a myriad of pieces.
More than 700 robots assembly plant in Louisville to help mount the body and interior of the new Ford Escape.
Robots with laser eyes and arm sucker contribute to reduce fatigue and employees save energy while enhancing the quality of the all-new Ford Escape.
Each Escape is in part built by robots firstly presented by Ford in Europe, using a laser guidance technology and camera to ensure that every new vehicle is built to the highest quality standards. The machines are programmed to recognize any deviation, as tiny as it is, as gaps between the door panels or between the windshield and the body.
"The ability of machines detect any gap in each vehicle range improves the quality of our products, as if they were custom-made," says Thomas Burns, an engineer responsible for the technological aspect of Escape.
The robotic arm and other automated machines help to reduce the degree of effort required by our employees while improving precision.
"Some of the robots work with our employees to build the Escape more effectively," says Marty Smets, ergonomics engineer. "We also have a wide range of semi-autonomous robots that perform tasks that are not safe for human being when executed repeatedly. "
For example, the assembly plant in Louisville, Kentucky, they are robots that fix dashboards, ice, paint and wings of the Escape. The door panels are adjusted more greenhouses to reduce noise binds to the wind, enhancing the quality of all Escape out of the assembly line. A robotic arm is responsible for applying the adhesive employee uniform way to fix the windshield, and it is up mechanically by means of suction cups allow for a perfect fit, every time.
In the paint shop, 88 new robots contribute to reduce energy costs by applying the paint and most effective way of sealing product is inside the body and outside the vehicle. Keeping humans on the outside areas or paint is applied, it is able to reduce the requirements in matters of air circulation and climate regulation, thereby saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.
