Toyota presents a global vision completely renewed
Toyota Announces New Global Vision, as well as organizational changes that will accelerate the process of decision making
Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has unveiled today (March 9 in Japan) the mission statement of the company affecting its overall Vision 2020.
The overall Vision describes the ideal form the company should take and the values it should honor. Facilities related to TMC worldwide shall define their own missions and concrete measures they adopt to realize the vision.
Text of the Toyota Global Vision:
"Toyota will head to direct the future of mobility, enriching lives around the world by providing transportation of the safest and most responsible. Thanks to our commitment to quality, continuous innovation and respect for the planet, we aim to exceed expectations and be rewarded with a smile. We will achieve ambitious goals by encouraging the talent and passion of people who believe that there is always a better way. "
TMC also announced changes in the international structure of the company to simplify the process of decision making and actions to give greater autonomy to the regional scale, to solidify the business activities of Toyota in North America .
Some of the changes introduced in TMC:
* Reduction in the number of members of the Board of Directors of TMC, which increased from 27 to 11.
* Streamlining the current system of decision making executives has three levels, and reduction of the total number of officers, which will increase from 77 to 60.
* Changing structures for decision making given to overseas subsidiaries. Chief regional directors will, in principle, locally affected, and the number of local directors will increase from 13 to 15. Functions of their divisions, which are currently performed in Japan, will be gradually transferred abroad.
* Establishment of exterior regional advisers with experience levels of education, government and businesses to offer opinions.
In his speech addressed to members of the media in Tokyo, Mr. Toyoda said that "regional facilities will more than ever a say in terms of policy formulation." TMC "will provide overall direction and identify what we need to do. We invest our regional facilities of the authority and responsibility to determine how to proceed. "
Finally, Mr. Toyoda said the plan is TMC "that North America to become a responsible global research center, development and production as well as exports."
