Vocational training and the world of motoring

With this new school year, the idea came to me to speak to you of the courses offered in vocational training in the field of maintenance of motorized equipment, particularly those concerning the automobile.

Especially in retirement as School Board Navigators, I had the pleasure of spending my last ten years at Vocational Training Centre in Levis.

Of French and English programs

In Quebec, vocational and technical training offers four programs in french affecting the automobile is:

-    Body

-    Esthetique automotive

-    Automotive mechanics

-    Locksmith

And two programs in English:

-    Automobile Mechanics

-    Automotive Body Repair and Repainting

Strong and well established programs

Having been responsible for monitoring examinations pass students who attend a vocational training center and for a good ten years, I can assure you that these studies programs that are given are rodes and they allowed has thousands of students to find a remunerative job and earn an honest living.

Today, I would like to inform you about the content of the main focuses on the automotive programs:

Body:

The objectives of this program are to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to repair the damaged mechanical components, perform the recovery frames and boxes, plastic welding and repair, estimate damage, see a retouching and the application of the finished vehicle.

Number of modules: 106

Duration: 1 590 hours

Sanction: DEP

Aesthetics of the car:

This course allows adults to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform various tasks of cleaning and restoration of the interior and exterior of a vehicle in order to provide the minimum in his condition original and even better.

Number of modules: 13

Duration: 570 hours

Sanction: AEP

Automobile mechanics:

Here is the most comprehensive program that will enable future mechanics perform mechanical work of preventive and corrective, check the vehicle in order to identify operating problems, investigate the cause and locate the source; making repairs, replacements and adjustments to the different systems of the vehicle, proceed to trial operation, proceed to the installation of accessories and optional equipment and enforce laws and regulations relating to health, and the safety and protection of the environment.

Duration: 1 800 hours

Sanction: DEP

Corporations dealer

In conjunction with the Corporation Automobile Dealers Quebec (CQAF) and Montreal (CCAM), the Cegep Marie-Victorin teaches a course in automotive sales consultant for a duration of 450 hours.

The PSC Levis 

The Vocational Training Centre of Levis in conjunction with the Corporation's auto regional dealers of Quebec (CCARQ) offers the course "Aesthetics of the automobile" with a duration of 570 hours which will start on 27 September 2010.

In the latter, the Centre also offers courses in "Automotive Mechanics" of a duration of 1800 hours.

During a "Sale of mechanical parts and accessories ATE" is also offered at this institution.
