Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell: very soon on the road
Last year in Detroit, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled three vehicles concepts based on a model of class B, one driven by a hybrid powertrain, the other by an electric motor and finally an approach batteries a fuel.
Ultimately, it is the latter solution was adopted by the engineers of the brand, which then had to be produced in very limited circulation.
And here today, the production was announced a height of 200 units of its Class B model, powered by an engine a fuel cell.
Thus, they will find themselves on German roads, americaines and Norway where we find already a distribution network of hydrogen. Our neighbors to the south, California already has an infrastructure that allows it to respond adequately to the various requirements of this new technology. Besides Honda chose this beautiful corner of the country to put to the test his model FCX Clarity also propelled by an engine fuel cells.
Mercedes-Benz has already tested on track and road racing a hundred prototypes were rolled beyond 4.5 million kilometers.
The approach fuel cells
In our case, this compact car category is equipped with an electric motor that develops 136 horsepower and phenomenal 214 lb-ft. It will seek power through fuel cells that feed hydrogen reacting with oxygen at a pressure of 700 bars. The amount of hydrogen is stored in three tanks of 4 kg.
Add to this, a lithium-ion 1.4 kWh that comes in to help and has the property of recharge during maneuvers and braking deceleration. These last tank of hydrogen and took place under the floor. This allows the car to preserve its cargo spaces totaling 416 liters.
It emits only water
According to data from the manufacturer, this car totally environmentally friendly, since it emits no CO2 emanation, announces performance equivalent to those of a car even a template engine four-cylinder 2.0-liter, which top speed is 170 km. Its capacity is 400 km and it takes only three minutes to refuel.
