Project 4-cylinder engine in F1: It will be rather a V6!

Engine regulations will change in Formula 1 2014. There are some months, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) had announced that the only permitted architecture would be a turbocharged 4-cylinder. An idea that hardly liked to engineers at this time in F1, and certainly not a Ferrari that has no 4-cylinder in its range and was not at all interested in to develop one for F1.

Finally, unanimously took place in recent days between the teams: it will be a turbocharged V6. But Adrian Newey, the chief engineer of Team Red Bull, just reveal that if the choice was first door on the 4-cylinder, it was at the request of the Volkswagen group that raises this condition before to give the green light to one of its brands, namely Audi, go to F1.

But Audi has finally changed his plans, even its leaders claiming loudly during the last 24 Hours of Le Mans mid-June to be fully satisfied with their involvement in endurance and have no plans for F1. It is finally with Audi and VW Endurance Championship World Rally that the Volkswagen Group will be present on the world stage in the coming years.
