Hennessey Venom GT: as fast as a Bugatti
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the current world record speed for a production car belongs to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Registered on the circuit Ehra-Lessien (a test track comprising a straight line 8.7 km), the maximum speed was of 431.072 km / h. This record is very difficult to beat, not only because the car that owns a record 1,200 horses fed by four turbochargers and a 16.4 liter W16, but also because the tracks can accommodate such speeds are rare. And as VW owns the Ehra-Lessien, it is very unlikely to let someone try to beat their supercar!
John Hennessey, Texas preparateur and manufacturer of Venom, is one of the serious contenders for the record. Last year, his car had managed to reach 427.6 km / h before reaching the end of the runway of 4.67 km from the Navy base in California. He knew very well that the car could achieve more, but where to go to find an adequate track? If a military airstrip is not long enough, why not take the one that NASA used to land the space shuttle?
So on February 14 that the Hennessey Venom GT is slender on the trail of John F. Kennedy Space Center. As NASA does not allow access to its track anyone, Hennessey play the trick. Under the pretext of a "scientific test" of a synthetic Penzoil oil and with the help of several obscure U.S. law, the authorization to perform a single pass was granted. Therefore it was impossible to officially break the Guinness record as the official procedure requires two passages: roundtrip. Never mind, the Texan was ready pulveriser the record for the Veyron SS!
The acceleration of the Venom GT is brutal. Using a 7-liter V8 biturbo developping 1,244 horses, it goes from 0 to 100 in 2.7 seconds, passes 300 km / h in 13.63 seconds and the morning, it reached 435.31 km / h, before running out of runway ... The record is beaten, though unofficially.
For Hennessey, the next challenge will be in the settings of the car, testing different ratios for the transmission, and also to find a track that has his car will reach its real limit ...
