He beat Ryan Hunter-Reay (Dallara-Chevrolet) and Takuma Sato (Dallara-Honda). James Hinchcliffe is ranked sixth. The Quebecois Alex Tagliani was not involved in this race, his team having ended his contract with the Lotus engine. "Tag" will return to the series for the Indianapolis 500.

NASCAR, Oval Richmond Virginia hosted competitors Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. Two races in the evenings, the Nationwide Friday night being marked by the success of Kurt Busch in command of the Toyota instituted by the stable of his little brother, Kyle Busch Motorsports. A first for this team in Nationwide. And to complete the family success, Kyle Busch imposes its Toyota (Joe Gibbs Racing) the next day, when the handle of the Sprint Cup, ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr Chevrolet and Tony Stewart.
