24 Hours of Nurburgring: A race more mediatic
Among the 24-hour tests that compete across the planet, almost everyone has heard one day the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Daytona or Spa. But, although they are not part of any international championship, the 24 Hours of Nurburgring have a history too.
Created in 1970, this test has long been the appointment of German amateur drivers who enjoyed themselves once a year on the famous "Nordschleife", the great Nurburgring, used by Formula 1 until 1976.
Over the years, if the ordeal remains a popular success (200,000 viewers this year and nearly one million cans of beer consumed), she became a real sporting event and a race attempting to register has its palmares for a multitude of professional drivers and teams. With over 200 cars departing on a track of almost 25 km (the "Nordchleife" and the Grand Prix circuit reunited!), Just a tower is a challenge.
Played the last weekend, the 2011 edition saw departing powerful teams enroll GT Audi R8 LMS, Mercedes SLS AMG, BMW M3 GT, Ferrari 458 Italia and of course countless Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. This is also one of them who wins, that of the stable Manthey which it was the fifth gain in six years. Not to say, know all the intricacies of an Endurance race is an asset, but master the multiple traps of this unique system in the world remains the key to success.
