Fiat 500 electric: Exclusive to North American market
Chrysler and Fiat announced that they will develop and commercialize an electric drive version of the little Fiat 500. The latter will be available exclusively for the North American market.
Thus, after the release scheduled for next fall of atmospheric Fiat 500 engine, all electric declination of the latter could end up in dealerships in 2012.
Let us remember that in 2008, Chrysler had created the ENVI department to designate its contribution to the environment, a plan to develop electric motors can be used at each of its various brands.
At this time, the technological approach consisted obviously an electric motor connected to a lithium-ion battery for long term, as well as no electronic case handling the flow of energy. The aim sought by the engineers was to allow vehicles driven by this technological approach to receive a small range that can vary between 240 and 320 km. Full recharge should take no more than eight hours via a 110 V or twice less time through a socket 220 V.
Remains now whether p'tit genies of companies Chrysler and Fiat will benefit from these approaches, or go to another register in the development of their future electric Fiat 500.
