Opel / Vauxhall Astra 2010, the European model finally unveiled
The duo European Opel / Vauxhall Astra appeared on the European chessboard automobile in 2003, the mission was unable to slow sales of the iconic Volkswagen Golf and its many declinations. As matter of fact, the latter has never been a serious rival to the Golf, although it benefited a specification very close to loads that its main rival.
Quite recently, Volkswagen has released the 6th generation of the Golf model. For its part, the new 2010 Astra will make its first entry in the worldly Auto Show in Frankfurt in September. Its European start will begin at the end of 2009.
A beautiful aesthetic success
In the light of the first pictures Broadcast, are those of the five-door hatchback version, we have to mention, its resemblance with the new Mazda3 five-door Sport. Which is in fact a very eloquent comparison. This elegant version that we currently presented, will be offered the first declension, while cutting GTC versions and family will follow a few months.
Its design is based on the multifunctional platform Delta, which has also been used in the development of the Chevrolet Cruze and Volt.
Motorsports has both known and renewed
The petrol engines of 1.4 liter will have their respective powers spread between 120 and 140 horsepower, not to mention the contribution of the 1.6-liter turbo engine with an output of 180 horsepower, which is also found under the hood of the high Insignia.
Must turbo diesel engines currently available on the European markets are renewed. That is to say, the four-cylinder engines of 1.3 and 1.7 liters respectively 90 and who develop 110 horsepower. The 1.9-liter engine will be replaced by a new 2.0-liter unit with an output of 150 horsepower.
Version for America
In all likelihood, the next North American version of the Opel Astra is no longer a product label Saturn, but rather available as Buick Astra. The latter would then be exported as during the years 2010 and offered as model 2011 ...
Currently, the Saturn Astra is powered by a four-cylinder 1.8-liter engine 138 hp who issues. It is still too early to know the or engines that will be available under the hood of the new model. Personally, I would not be surprised to see the future Buick Astra, with the engine 2.0-liter 180 horsepower, or its declination turbo diesel 150 horsepower. And why not simply with the current engine, slightly modified.
