GM will walk 560 employees time to renovate a factory near Detroit
General Motors announced the layoff of 560 employees time to renovate one of its plants situated near Detroit, Michigan, in order to make a new engine.
The automaker says that the layoff would take effect in August and ending in late 2015. He wants to renovate the interior of its plant in Romulus in order to produce a more efficient V-6 engine.
The plant currently produces several types of V-6 engines and V-8 trucks as well as for industrial and marine sector. Once the work completes U.S. $ 390 million, only V-6 engines will be manufactured.
During the period of layoff, about 430 full-time employees will receive unemployment benefits and an additional amount equal to 75 percent of their salary while 130 temporary employees will lose their jobs.
GM announced its plan to renovate the factory in 2011. Approximately 120 qualified employees will remain in place during construction.
