Diagonal belt for rear center seat is mandatory
The cars will all have shoulder belts for the seat of the middle of the back seat, announced the Federal Minister of Transport, Denis Lebel, Thursday.
Automakers have until September 1, 2015 to comply with the new requirements. But it will not be necessary to install this kind of belts in older vehicles.
The federal government also amended the standards to require dummies representing women and children are also used when the tests are made of automotive safety.
In announcing the new regulations, the Minister Lebel says the number of deaths and serious wounded decrease thanks to this new standard.
The new standards will also further harmonize Canadian rules with the rules of the United States, which should facilitate cross-border trade, after the calculations of government.
