GMC Savana, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.
In the United States, more than 54 000 vehicles that are recalled, while in Canada, only 6310 units are affected by this recall.
The identified problem
Some vehicles do not meet a CMVSS 102 - Control functions of the gearbox and CMVSS 114 - Protection against theft and immobilizer. A cable lock breaks or module defective steering lock could have been posed during assembly of the vehicle. This could allow the driver to place the shift lever in a position other than PARK while the ignition key is in the OFF position or it is not in the ignition. In addition, the gearbox could be placed in a position other than PARK without that we have a press brake pedal. The key could also be placed in the OFF position and removed while the shift lever is not in PARK position. These problems could cause the vehicle starts to move unexpectedly, which could result in an accident causing property damage or personal injury.
The solution
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering column.
