Stimulus program The Air!
$ 10 million for the fight against climate change and improve the quality of air.
The Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Mr. Pierre Arcand, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Sam Hamad, have today announced the granting of financial assistance to $ 10 million in the quebecoise Association against air pollution (AQLPA), allowing recovery program The Air!
The program offers AQLPA citizens to scrap their old polluting vehicle, built in 1997 or during the earlier years, in exchange for, among other things, securities transit, a discount on the subscription a car-sharing service or a discount on the purchase of a bicycle or a fuel-efficient vehicle. These incentives allow citizens to opt for the use of sustainable modes of transport, while recycling their old vehicle to ecological way. Since the beginning of the financial participation of the Quebec program The Air! in 2009, nearly 40,000 old vehicles were withdrawn from circulation.
"Our target of reducing emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2020 is very ambitious, and we are proud. A vehicle that has 15 years of age pollutes 20 times more than a new vehicle. Since 2009, nearly 50,000 tons of pollutants and GHG emission thus been eliminated. Through this initiative, we hope to improve the environmental performance of the fleet, promote the use of sustainable modes of transport and improving the quality of the air, "says a Minister Arcand.
Recall that the reduction of GHG emissions in the transport sector, a major contributor to air pollution and of global warming, is a priority for the Government of Quebec. More than 40% of quebecois balance of GHG emissions and a large proportion of air contaminant emissions are attributed to this sector.
"The Quebec is currently in a period of transition to transportation systems that promote the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gas emissions. The next policy on public transport currently elaboration will be an important lever of this transition. By 2030, we also have the ambition that 95% of displacements on the quebecois network of public transport use to electricity. That is why initiatives like this that we announce today fit well with our vision for the future of transportation in Quebec, in which the use of sustainable modes of transport is called upon to occupy an increasingly greater, " Minister Hamad.
