Toyota will increase production of the RAV4 in Ontario
Over 800 people hired and creation of a second shift
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC) announced the creation of a second shift to increase RAV4 production at its plant in Woodstock (Ontario) from March 2010. TMMC, which also builds the Corolla, the Matrix and the Lexus RX 350, and will create 800 new jobs and increase RAV4 production was 150,000 vehicles. Hiring should begin this month.
Production of the RAV4 SUV debuted in November 2008 with a single shift and a team of 1200 people. The majority of the RAV4 intended North American market will henceforth factories in Ontario.
"Thanks to the high demand for this popular vehicle, we were able to increase production in Woodstock," stated Ray Tanguay, president of TMMC. "We are very pleased to continue our growth and create jobs in the local community. It is a vote of confidence for the RAV4, the quality of our suppliers and the ability of members of our Canadian team. Moreover, this decision reinforces Toyota's commitment to producing vehicles in North America and manufacture on the steps we serve. "
With 800 new jobs, TMMC henceforth count some 6,500 employees. TMMC manufactures vehicles since November 1988 and possesses an annual production capacity of 420,000 vehicles.
