Toyota decided to terminate its involvement in Formula 1
Japanese Toyota stopped Formula 1, announced Wednesday its president Akio Toyoda.
At a press conference, the president of the Japanese automaker says that his company wanted to focus on its core business. The largest producer of cars in the world has experienced its worst financial results this year and still expects a loss on the current year tax.
After the withdrawal of Honda, Toyota is the second Japanese manufacturer to withdraw from Formula 1. Monday, tire manufacturer Bridgestone had decided to no longer supply tires to F1 at the end of the 2010 season.
The International Federation of Automobile (FIA) has announced it will ensure the legality of the withdrawal of Toyota had announced its commitment to F1 until 2012.
"This will have a direct impact on the admission of a 13th stables" for next season, declared the FIA in a statement, which would therefore like an "urgent clarification".
The FIA also believes that the withdrawal reinforces the need for stables to accept a limitation of budgets.
