A road record of the year 2009 more positive
The Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for the Company auto insurance Quebec, Julie Boulet, discloses data of road safety record of the year 2009. For the third consecutive year, there was a significant decrease in the number of victims on Quebec roads.
We deplore the deaths of 515 people on the roads of Quebec during the last year, which represents 42 victims from 2008. This is also a decrease of 20.8% compared to the average of five previous years, which is at 650 victims.
Also counted 2,253 people seriously injured, or 110 fewer victims than in 2008. Comparing the average of the previous five years, which is 3,329 victims, it is a decrease of 32.3% .
"Those are 152 families who have been affected less by routiere tragedy in 2009. Again, the Quebec knows his best road record last 60 years," stressed the minister.
The number of people wounded slightly for his part declined from 41,225 in 2008 to 40,814 in 2009. This is a decrease of 9.4% compared to the average of the previous five years, which rises to 45 028 victims.
The minister wished to recall that this result is the result of the combined efforts of all stakeholders in road safety that affect the level of legislation, awareness and control. "I want to congratulate all those who participated in saving lives and prevent unnecessary suffering has many Quebecois and many Quebecoises during the year 2009. Our challenge for the coming years will be to continue to encourage users the road change their behavior to preserve this trend to the improvement, "says a Minister.
