Mazda CX-5: he clinched 5 star Euro NCAP
Obtaining the maximum score confirming the effectiveness of the new SKYACTIV Structure and integral safety concept from Mazda.
The all-new Mazda CX-5 has been officially ranked among the safest vehicles in the world by winning five-star Euro NCAP1 testing, the highest rating in matters of security.
The CX-5 compact crossover SUV launched in Europe in February, received the highest rating in all four categories2. His scores on tests of adult occupant protection, child occupant protection and evaluation of systems to aid the safety (respectively 94%, 87% and 86%) were significantly higher than those required (respectively 80% 75% and 60%) to unhook an overall rating of five stars. However, the CX-5 has managed this feat despite the stricter requirements introduced by Euro NCAP in 2012 for the protection of pedestrians, vehicles category in which henceforth must obtain a score of 60%.
After the Mazda6 and Mazda3, the CX-5 is the third Mazda model to be crown five star Euro NCAP since the agency has implemented its new evaluation system in 2009. Scores in each category are defined after several trials of shocks, including a frontal collision at 64 km / h and a lateral collision between two vehicles is 50 km / h, a lateral impact on a pole is 29 km / h and a simulated collision with a pedestrian has 40 km / h. The agency Euro NCAP also assesses various security systems, including the electronic stability control (ESC) 3.
First model of a new generation of Mazda vehicles, the CX-5 is also the first to feature the innovative SKYACTIV Structure. Desiring to develop the ideal cash, Mazda engineers departed from scratch and rethink the fundamental principles of the structure, the materials and methods of production. Their work has resulted in the development of a fund constituted a 61% highly resistant steels. The uphills beams has inside of the front and back are actually made in a ultra-high resistance to 1 800 MPa steel, is the most robust steel never used for the manufacture of a vehicle. Mazda has designed a structure that not only ensures enhanced safety in case of impact, but also distinguished by its extreme lightness. Mazda plans to equip all its models of new generation SKYACTIV Structure.
European New Car Assessment Programme, independent body assessing the safety of vehicles since 1997.
The results obtained in the four categories are weighted as follows to determine the overall score: 50% for adult occupant protection, 20% for child occupant protection, 20% for the protection of pedestrians and 10% for the aid the security.
